Menopause and its Taboo effect

After centuries of avoiding the topic altogether, the world has finally come to a stage where menopause can be talked about. What menopause is and why it was avoided as a subject altogether is a bit tricky to get around. But we’ve got you covered.

Let’s start with the very basics. Menopause refers to the time that signals the end of a menstrual cycle in female bodies. It’s simply a woman’s body telling her that her reproductive organs have declined to a point of no further functioning. A spiral of symptoms including hot flashes, mood swings, fatigue, insomnia and many occur more often than not in almost every case of menopause.

As for why the topic has been danced around for centuries, it mostly has to do with the fact that a backwards society couldn’t possibly accept the idea of normal female bodily functions like menstruation, let alone menopause. But as time has progressed, it has become more and more accepted all over the world as it is more widely recognized.

The generational trauma of menopause

In this day and age, women are more comfortable with themselves than ever before. But a vicious cycle of not spreading awareness and denying to acknowledge menopause has led to a vast vat of misinformation. This information has led to more danger to a woman’s health and wellbeing.

Menopause has been believed to occur for bizarre reasons, most of which are not true. The only reason that menopause occurs is because of the decline of reproductive health as a result of a woman reaching a certain age or stage in her life. It just signifies that reproduction during and after this stage would not be possible for the female body.

It’s been a long time coming, but women need to understand that they do not need to live with menopausal symptoms. There are various treatment options that they can pursue. It does not stop menopause itself, but it does help relieve the person from the raging symptoms and is much more relief based. Many licensed medical professionals are trained quite literally to be at your service.

Time for treatment

Did you know that over 75% of women in the world opt not to get treated for their menstrual symptoms? This is quite an unbelievable statistic considering how many women go through sometimes unbearable symptoms. Many different reasons for this can be determined.

The biggest one is that many women are simply unaware of the fact that menopause actually does not have to be as excruciating as it is. Women have accepted the fact that menopause, though irritating, is natural but have no clue that the process can be eased into. Doctors who specialise in female health would be able to provide women with multiple options to transition from their menopausal stage to a post-menopausal stage.

Another big reason that women do not seek treatment is that they are denied simple healthcare in many parts of the world. Healthcare being a basic human right is still not normalized when monetary insufficiencies play a hand. Corporation greed has denied multiple people to recover and rehabilitate due to the fact that they cannot afford it.

To add insult to injury, another reason women do not seek treatment is their own denial. Acknowledging the problem at hand is the only way one can begin to look for a solution. But when the problem isn’t even addressed, it does not help in relieving the current state of the female body.

It is extremely important that such barriers need to be broken through especially on such trivial matters. This is because, at the end of the day, a person is mainly responsible for their health and wellbeing. Hence, it becomes your responsibility as an individual to look out for yourself

Femtech and female health innovation

The women’s health industry is going full speed ahead with its innovations and its modern approach to bettering the lives of women across the globe. Resources to better your health have never been more accessible than they are in our world today. There are whole entire kiosks and help desks set up in major hubs across the world that help women in being one with themselves.

There are also multinational and national companies that develop and produce female health and wellness products. Some names that spring to mind include Ava Women which provides fertility wearables, Goop created and popularized by renowned actress Gwyneth Paltrow, and Miracare which deals with fertility and ovulation tracking.

There are also apps and technology being developed to fulfil the health needs of women from the comfort of their living room couch. Having access to such technology is truly a luxury because it enables a woman to have the power to track her health at the tip of her finger.

Advancements in these fields are happening almost every day with multiple minds working on even more innovative projects while improving upon what has already been developed. It is safe to say that this is the golden age of technology when it comes to women’s health.

How you can help

As an individual living in modern society, it is important to take responsibility for your own health and not be a hindrance to anyone looking to do the same. After decades of being denied the right to vouch for their health, women have never been as forward as they are today.

It becomes essential that awareness of menstruation be spread with logic and facts instead of misinforming little girls around the world. Menstruation is not this taboo concept that needs to be kept behind locked doors. On the other hand, it is also not the end of the world. It just so happens to be a regular bodily function among women and should be spoken of more.

Only once we acknowledge the fact that menopause is something we can live with, can we make strides in improving female health as a whole.
